A Little More About Jody Waters
For those of you who didn’t get the opportunity to meet Jody Waters, you may only know her as the victim of the worst kind of evil. But to her family, she was Mom, she was Grandma, and a friend to everyone she met. In addition to her passion for animals, Jody was dedicated to her two daughters Alex and Channing, son-in-law Corey, her lifelong friend and former spouse Chuck Hunker, and her young grandson Everett, who she called the “light of her life.”
That love and devotion spilled over to those lucky enough to call her friend. Compassionate, humble, and empathetic, personal relationships were everything to her. She was that friend who was always there when you needed help, support, or just someone to listen.
A 40-year resident of Boulder, many people knew Jody through the clothing stores that she owned in Boulder and Denver for more than 23 years. She was extremely creative—her store windows became tourist attractions. She was also a task master who led by example, and she had an unmatched work ethic. Customers received the kind of attention most people reserve for close friends and, not surprisingly, people came back again and again.
Despite her outgoing nature, Jody stayed out of the spotlight. When she gave to others she did so quietly and without any need for recognition or reciprocation. Among her favorite activities was meeting a friend for a hike in Chautauqua. Not surprisingly, Charlotte and Charlie, her most recent rescue dogs, were always in tow.
